New grade, new responsibilities

Fifth graders raising the flags while classmates lie on the ground beneath them as a “human rug.”

Patriot Day took on a whole new meaning for our fifth graders. They have taken on a meaningful responsibility: raising, lowering, and respectfully folding the flags in front of our school every day.

Through hands-on learning, our students soaked up much more than the proper way to fold a flag. They discovered honor, respect, and gratitude for the sacrifices so many have made to keep our country strong and free.

As the flags were raised for the first time this year, some students, determined that the flag should never touch the ground, sprang into action and formed a “human rug” to protect it! Moments like these remind us that respect and patriotism aren’t just taught. They’re felt, lived, and celebrated.
